G.R.E.E.N. ARCHIVES
8th Annual GREEN Night 2010

G.R.E.E.N. $100,000 for the North Platte Catholic Schools
NORTH PLATTE – Close to 300 people gathered Saturday, October 9th for the 8th annual G.R.E.E.N. (Generating Resources for Educational Excellence Now) fundraising event for the North Platte Catholic Schools. The event which features dinner, silent and live auctions, games and a lottery drawing raised over $100,000 for McDaid and St. Patrick’s schools. Money raised at the annual event helps fund teacher retirement and defray the operating costs of North Platte’s Catholic School system. North Platte Catholic Schools Endowment-Trust Executive Director Wendy Dodson estimates the final result to be close to $105,000. Dodson says this would be the largest profit since the first G.R.E.E.N. celebration in 2003.
The G.R.E.E.N. “Lucky Lotto” brought in $24,000. The $10,000 grand prize winner is Keith Harvat of Omaha, formerly of North Platte. The $1,000 second prize winner is Kellie Vap of North Platte. The 2010 Lucky Lotto sponsors were: Dan and Sandy Keenan, Pat and Kathleen Keenan, Jeff and Robyn O’Connor, CG Architects, and U-Save Pharmacy (Bill Snodgrass).
The “Irish Heads or Tails” game, a new addition to G.R.E.E.N. this year, contributed over $2,500 to the event total. Jill Granger of North Platte won the game and received a $1,000 cash prize. Adams Bank and Trust was the sponsor of the Heads or Tails game.
Dodson says that thanks are in order to the entire community of North Platte for their support of G.R.E.E.N. and the North Platte Catholic Schools. Next year’s G.R.E.E.N. is scheduled for Saturday, October 1st, 2011.

NORTH PLATTE – Record snowfall didn’t dampen the Irish spirit at the 7th annual G.R.E.E.N. G.R.E.E.N. was held Saturday, October 10th, and raised $95,000 for McDaid and St. Patrick’s schools. 4th Annual GREEN Night 2006

The 4th Annual GREEN Night was the place to be last Saturday evening, October 28th. With over 325 guests in attendance, the Sandhills Convention Center hosted an evening of fun and fundraising. GREEN stands for Generating Resources for Education Excellence Now with the funds for the operation of the North Platte Catholic School System.
A steak dinner was served while being entertained by Steve Seskin, one of the most successful songwriters in Nashville. Seskin has helped spread the message of tolerance and respect through a school curriculum called, Operation Respect / Don’t Laugh at Me. On Friday he visited McDaid Elementary and Eisenhower Elementary.
The highlight of the evening was Mr. Martin Cordes
drawing his own number and winning the 2007 Ford Focus. Mr. Cordes is a long time teacher at St. Pat Middle School. JoAnn Windholz, the Endowment Executive Director said that “this is wonderful for Mr. Cordes because he is the most beloved teacher ever to walk the halls of St. Pat’s. It is almost like saying Thank You for being there for all of us, especially our kids.”
The evening moved right along by Marty Troshynski acting as the evenings master of ceremonies reminding guests as the bidding tables were about to close and to take part in the chance to win a bottle of wine and a Fabulous Gourmet Dinner for 6 Lucky People.
Nearly a hundred thousand dollars was raised with the car raffle and a fantastic Live Auction with guests going to Maui, Mexico, Austria, fishing in Canada, duck hunting, eating steak, golfing at the Dismal River Club, and dining with Bishop Dendinger.
The Super Silent Auction featured Husker tickets to the Nebraska/Colorado game this Thanksgiving weekend, Mr. C’s Pew, Wild Horse Golf package, Nebraska State Capital watercolor print donated by Governor Heineman, and more.
Thanks to wonderful donations the Silent Auction had a wide range of gifts that included Broncos/Seattle tickets, private swimming lessons, Wine Basket, Singing Telegram, and front row seats at McDaid Christmas Program at the Fox Theatre to mention only a few.
The GREEN Committee worked very diligently to make this the best GREEN Night to date. Thank you to Chairs Kim and Bart Schroll, Krista and Steve Heiss and their terrific support committee Deb and James O’Malley, Laura and Mike Montgomery, Jacque and Kent Allison, Liz and Joel Bennett, Jeanne and Kurt Pieper, and Kathleen and Pat Keenan.
